The overall project objective is to develop and test an innovative, creative, European-scaled learning environment (‘city decarbonisation itinerant workshop’), where students, specialists and  stakeholders can come together to address common onsite challenges and define collaborative urban decarbonisation roadmaps through a ‘learning-by-doing’ method.

The specific project objectives include:

  • Bringing together and reinforcing the linkages among higher education, academic knowledge, institutions’ experience, and communities’ needs and expectations;
  • Transferring knowledge about the complex issue of city decarbonisation and how to deal with it, by consolidating and testing innovative training strategies based on an integrated approach, and by cocreating knowledge on technologies, legal issues, financial management, social engagement, and monitoring tools in the field of urban sustainability, thus enhancing the students’ capacities to operate in a real-world setting;
  • Designing participatory city decarbonisation scenarios for target district/neighbourhoods, providing a roadmap for urban decarbonisation and the transition to sustainable and carbon neutral districts/neighbourhoods with the active involvement of HE students. The long-term scope of the project is to improve cooperation and share knowledge to manage energy transition and pursue decarbonisation of European cities, combining multidisciplinary competences. The teaching/learning experiences implemented and materials provided in open access are expected to allow for building capacity of new professional figures able to manage this urgent and necessary transition to carbon neutrality.
